The small site of 151sqm bought by a Trading Company of Sound Systems was entirely occupied by an old abandoned warehouse, built between 1925 and 1938.
The complete demolition of the warehouse was not plausible, since according to Building Regulations the area allowed to be covered by a new building would be by far smaller than the original one. Therefore, the original outer shell and roof of the warehouse were kept, although the roof had to be eventually replaced due to safety reasons. In fact, the project was not a conversion or a restoration of the old warehouse but rather an insertion of a new building within an old shell.
The main addition of three levels was limited to the front section of the building, creating thus a full height void that allows an open view to the roof. The design reflects the narrative of a noisy flea market and the main concept of the internal space becoming an extension of the street.
